What is your name?
Larry Rooney
 
What voice part do you sing?
Bass 1
 
How long have you been in BCS?
I joined in January 2014 in time to sing Dvorjak’s Stabat Mater.
 
Where are you from?
I am from Dublin’s Northside, but moved to Bray in 1974 and finally to Shankill in 1976
 
Do you have any favourite choir memories?
Many great memories including the warmth of the welcome when I joined and also our trips to Leuven/ Brussels and Prague
 
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Phibsborough in Dublin
 
What is the first record/cassette/CD you remember owning?
I remember buying Tapestry by Fleetwood Mac
 
What are your hobbies besides singing?
I played golf for many years until my home club closed a few years ago
 
What is your favourite song?
The Beatles singing In My Life
 
Do you have a favourite composer or musician?
That has to be Beethoven
 
Do you play any instruments?
I used to play guitar a little
 
What language(s) do you speak?
I am, obviously a native English Speaker had conversational Irish, French and a little Spanish but am very much out of practice.
 
What is your favourite colour?
Red
 
What was the best concert or performance you’ve ever attended?
That would have to be Beethoven’s 9th Symphony
 
Favourite show or piece you have ever performed?
Mozart’s Requiem.
 
Favourite place you’ve ever visited?
Monument Valley in Northern Arizona
 
What’s one book you could read over and over again?
I have read already Lord of The Rings three times.
 
How do you like to start your day?
With a big mug of coffee and a leisurely breakfast, while perusing The Irishtimes.
 
What’s one thing you’re learning now or learned recently?
I feel as if I am learning every day
 
What’s something you saw recently that made you smile?
I had to smile at the excitement in my granddaughter’s face when she announced she is going to have a baby sister.
 
What topic could you give an hour-long presentation on with little to no preparation?
Weapons of Mass Destruction.
 
What do you do to turn things around when you’re having a bad day?
I go for a walk enjoy the beauty of nature.
 
If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?
I would probably choose computer science.
 
If you could sing any voice part, which one would you choose?
I would have liked to be a Lyrical Tenor, but nature determined otherwise and I am content to be a Baritone.
 
What’s one song or piece of music you’ve always wanted to sing but haven’t yet?
That would be “Ode to Joy” from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
